10 Things Most People Don't Know About Me

10 Things Most People Don't Know About Me

I love a good snoopy investigation or learning something I never knew about someone! It feels like juicy gossip - but without hurtful words or feelings (I hope)

Today's blog post is SO GOOD for that! I'm dishing and telling you 10 things you probably didn't know about me as an artist!

Here’s a list of ten intriguing things that most people might not know about me:

  1. Hidden Talents: Besides painting, I was a gymnast growing up and before my current job... I was a surgical assistant working in huge surgeries all day long.  These were both super cool things I did with my life, however, I quickly burnt out and when I left each of these I never went back.  Maybe it's because I feel like I did my time and was just really ready to move on!

  2. Inspiration Sources: I always find my inspiration on reference image websites.  Even though these can seem quite boring at first glance... I've grown to love them because I can easily play with a generic image and add color, contrast, or add things I want as the artist! Other places that inspire me: boutiques, seasonal decor shops, books, and even current TV shows like Bridgerton, Nobody Wants This, Hallmark Movies, and more!

  3. Artistic Process: I always do the same process every time I do a painting! It goes a little bit like this: 1. Find my image 2. Edit the image on my iPad to how I like it 3. Sketch it out on my canvas 4. Value study 5. Under painting 6. Medium painting 7. 2-3 layers of opaque paint details! I know this might not make sense to you - but each piece has so much to it.  So may layers and points where I reevaluate, perfect, play with colors, and more! I'm OBSESSED!!!!

  4. Art Education: NONE.  I don't have any traditional art education in my back pocket.  I actually have a bachelors degree in Chemistry - which doesn't do a lot to serve me or my family these days.  I have taken a few IG courses in painting and just fun online walk throughs but no traditional or formal training for me so far! That's not to say that I'd never be interested in it, who knows!

  5. Favorite Mediums: Acrylic.  All. The time. I have tried so many paints over the years and I always come back to acrylic.  It's my true love!!!!

  6. Personal Themes: Obviously I have a feminine/seasonal holiday theme with my paintings.  I think this is because that is what I really love in my daily life.  I love getting my little girls pumpkin pajamas, changing my wreaths, using peppermint body scrub, all those things just make me so happy so I paint about them along with a romantic vibe! I love to paint people as well they just add life to my work!

  1. Community Engagement: Did you know I'm on the local Betterment Board? Yep! I am part of a group that's mission is to beauti-fy our community and I love it! We do lots of different projects from building parks to planting trees and funding holiday downtown decor!

  2. Dream Projects: I have a big dream of licensing my art to Anthropologie or Alt'rd State! I just love these stores so much and dream of having my paintings in a line there!

  3. Favorite Artists: I have a handful of artists that I love: Amanda Oleander is the first artist that I truly started following a few years ago.  I fell in love with her illustrations of life behind closed doors and found so much connection to her work! Highly recommended checking her out!  I also love Emily Jeffords, Laurie Ann, Lindsey Letters, and Brooke C Ring!

  4. Quirky Rituals: I always listen to Morgan Wallen when I'm painting.  I don't care how many times I've heard his essentials playlist on iTunes.  It's always on in the studio! I also have 2 jars of water for my brushes.  I have to have one for cool colored brushes and one for warm colored brushes - mixing my dirty brushes in both gives me the ICK!

Thanks for connecting with me on a deeper level and understanding the unique perspectives behind my art!
